Vault-ready proton system headed to Tam Anh
Mevion said the S250-FIT installation would be Vietnam’s first proton therapy system, with operation expected as early as late 2027 at Tam Anh’s Phu My Hung facility.
Tam Anh General Hospital is set to receive a MEVION S250-FIT Proton Therapy System under a definitive purchase agreement with Mevion Medical Systems. Mevion said the installation would be the first proton therapy system in Vietnam.
Both the MEVION S250-FIT and MEVION S250i Proton Therapy System have recently received regulatory approval in Vietnam, according to the company. TD Tech Company, Mevion’s distributor in Vietnam, is facilitating the project.
The S250-FIT system at Tam Anh is expected to become operational as early as late 2027. The timeline is tied to the opening of Tam Anh’s new facility in Phu My Hung.
Mevion describes the S250-FIT as a proton therapy system designed for installation in a standard, existing radiation therapy vault. The company said the system will include an upright patient-positioning system from Leo Cancer Care and RayStation treatment-planning software from RaySearch Laboratories.
FDA records list the S250-FIT under 510(k) K250986 as a Class II medical charged-particle radiation therapy system. The device is intended to deliver proton radiation treatment to patients with localized tumors or other conditions susceptible to radiation treatment.
The FDA summary states that fully seated use is indicated for localized tumors and other radiation-treatable conditions at sites above the mid-chest or carina. The agency found the system substantially equivalent to Mevion’s previously cleared S250i device.
