David B. Larson, MD, MBA, has been named chair of the Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences at the Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine at the University of Utah.
His appointment is effective September 14, 2026.
Larson joins Utah from Stanford University, where he is professor of radiology in pediatric radiology and director of the Stanford Radiology AI Development and Evaluation Lab.
He previously served as executive vice chair and acting chair of Stanford’s Department of Radiology, according to the University of Utah.
Charles Ray Jr., MD, PhD, has served as interim chair of the University of Utah radiology department.
“Dr. Larson is an accomplished physician, educator, researcher and leader,” Kristina Callis Duffin, MD, dean of the Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine, said in the announcement.
Larson’s work has focused on quality improvement, patient safety, operational improvement, and AI in medicine, according to the University of Utah and Stanford.
He is also an American Board of Radiology trustee and was elected vice president of the American College of Radiology in 2026.
Utah said Larson’s leadership will focus on patient care, education, research, and innovation.
