MSK suit targets GEHC PET/CT motion software

The Delaware complaint alleges that GE HealthCare MotionFree-equipped PET/CT scanners infringe MSK patents covering image-based respiratory motion correction.

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center filed a patent infringement lawsuit against General Electric Company, GE HealthCare Technologies, and GE Medical Systems in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware.

The case was filed on June 1, 2026, under case number 1:26-cv-00633.

The complaint alleges that GE HealthCare products equipped with MotionFree technology infringe MSK patents related to motion-corrected medical imaging.

MSK alleges that Adam Kesner, PhD, a physicist at the cancer center, developed image-based methods for correcting motion in PET imaging.

GE HealthCare describes MotionFree as a respiratory motion management solution for PET/CT that monitors respiratory motion without a gating device.

The GE HealthCare product page states that MotionFree can automatically modify a scan and integrate respiratory motion information into the final image.

MSK is seeking damages, pre- and post-judgment interest, enhanced damages for alleged willful infringement, and attorney fees, according to the complaint summary.

The docket shows the complaint was filed with a jury demand and included multiple patent exhibits.
