MR-guided cardiac mapping platform reaches U.S. market
NorthStar is a cardiac mapping and guidance platform designed for real-time MR-guided interventional procedures.
Imricor Medical Systems has launched the NorthStar Mapping System commercially in the U.S. The system is a cardiac mapping and guidance platform designed for use with real-time MR imaging.
The company said the platform allows physicians to visualize the heart’s structure and tissue characteristics during minimally invasive interventional procedures. Imricor said the system does not require X-ray imaging.
The FDA’s 510(k) summary describes the technology as a system for interventional cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging procedures, including electrophysiology procedures.
The system can display real-time MR images, 3D anatomical representations, interventional device location, electroanatomical maps, and ablation points, according to the FDA summary.
Imricor said the cardiac mapping platform differs from conventional MRI workflows by allowing real-time image viewing and manipulation during procedures. The company described it as built specifically for MR-guided interventional procedures.
The product page states that the system provides real-time visibility of anatomy, catheters, and lesion formation during cardiac ablations performed inside the MRI suite.
The NorthStar Mapping System has FDA clearance and CE mark, according to Imricor. The company noted that some other products in its interventional MR portfolio have CE mark approval but have not yet been approved for U.S. use.
Imricor said it planned to show the system at the Heart Rhythm Society Annual Scientific Sessions, which began April 24 in Chicago.
