HCA’s CHCP deal includes imaging CE provider MTMI
HCA Healthcare agreed to acquire CHCP, a Texas allied-health education provider that owns MTMI and offers programs in sonography, radiologic technology, and medical coding.
HCA Healthcare has agreed to acquire ownership of The College of Health Care Professions, a Texas-based allied-healthcare training provider. Financial terms were not disclosed, and the transaction remains subject to regulatory approval and other customary closing conditions.
CHCP provides healthcare education to more than 8,000 students each year across 10 Texas campuses and online, according to HCA. The college currently offers more than 20 accredited programs, including medical assisting, sonography, surgical technology, radiologic technology, and medical coding and billing.
The agreement also brings Medical Technology Management Institute into the HCA education portfolio. CHCP describes MTMI as its continuing education provider for medical imaging training and lists CT, MRI, mammography, ultrasound, PACS, bone densitometry, breast ultrasound, and vascular ultrasound among its modalities.
MTMI offers in-person, live webinar, and self-paced training formats. CHCP said the institute’s programs are designed for technologists, sonographers, and related professionals.
HCA said it has worked with CHCP for decades through program advisory boards, clinical sites, and career placement. In 2023, the organizations collaborated on a 12-week medical assistant training program for HCA urgent care centers in Texas.
More than 100 HCA colleagues have completed that medical assistant program since launch, according to the announcement. Eric Bing will remain CHCP chancellor and CEO after the acquisition.
CHCP has trained more than 52,000 students since opening in 1988. HCA said the school will continue preparing students for healthcare careers after joining the health system.
The planned acquisition follows HCA’s 2020 purchase of majority ownership in Galen College of Nursing. Since then, HCA said it has opened 20 new Galen campuses, bringing the nursing school network to 25 campuses nationwide.
HCA Healthcare comprises 189 hospitals and about 2,600 ambulatory sites of care across 19 states and the United Kingdom. The transaction is pending regulatory review and closing conditions.
