GZO detectors bring faster X-ray inspection to battery lines
Detection Technology expanded its X-ray flat panel detector portfolio with high-speed IGZO detectors for battery inspection. The panels are designed for high-volume battery manufacturing and EV battery quality control.
Detection Technology has expanded its X-ray flat panel detector portfolio for battery inspection with the addition of high-speed IGZO-based detectors.
The Finland-based company said the new indium gallium zinc oxide detectors are available in 1313, 3030, and 4343 panel sizes. The products complement Detection Technology’s existing amorphous silicon, or a-Si, detector offerings for industrial X-ray applications.
The expanded portfolio is aimed at battery manufacturers that need higher imaging speed, precision, and throughput in production environments. Detection Technology said its IGZO detectors are already being delivered to electric vehicle battery manufacturers.
Flat panel detectors are used in X-ray inspection of battery cells and battery packs to identify internal defects that cannot be seen from the outside. These can include air pockets, cracks, voids, misaligned layers, and foreign objects, according to the company.
The company said the detectors are compatible with inline, at-line, and offline inspection systems. They can be used across cylindrical, pouch, button, and power winding battery types, giving manufacturers options for different production and quality-control workflows.
Battery inspection is not a clinical radiology application, but the announcement is relevant to the wider imaging technology market because it reflects how X-ray detector platforms are being adapted for nonmedical uses. The same core imaging principles, including detector speed, image quality, and workflow integration, are central to both medical and industrial imaging.
“With our IGZO and a-Si detector technologies, we aim to provide manufacturers with application-optimized and scalable solutions for battery inspection,” said Wei Chunlin, sales director at Detection Technology.
The company said its flat panel detectors are designed to provide reliable imaging performance, imaging speed, and competitive cost, supported by 24/7 customer service.
Detection Technology plans to present the IGZO detectors at the China International Battery Fair in Shenzhen, China, from May 13 to 15.
The announcement comes as battery manufacturers face growing pressure to inspect internal cell structures without destroying the product. X-ray inspection is used in battery production because defects inside cells or packs can affect reliability, performance, and safety.
