Fujifilm balloon-free EBUS scope targets pulmonary setup time

Fujifilm Healthcare Americas has launched the EB-710US Ultrasound Bronchoscope, a balloon-less endobronchial ultrasound scope for pulmonary care. The company plans to demonstrate the device at booth 1815 during the American Thoracic Society Conference, held May 18-20 in Orlando, FL.
EB-710US eliminates the need to manually attach or position a balloon before an EBUS procedure, according to Fujifilm. The company said the design is intended to reduce balloon-related infection risks, preparation time, and disposable balloon costs.
Traditional EBUS scopes use a balloon at the tip to maintain contact between the ultrasound probe and the airway wall. Fujifilm said small air bubbles can interfere with ultrasound transmission, requiring additional setup and verification before procedures.
A high-performance ultrasound transducer is built into the new scope. Fujifilm said it is designed to provide enhanced resolution and deep tissue penetration.
Design features include 180° upward and 90° downward angulation, a 6.4-mm distal end, a 5.9-mm insertion tube, a shortened transducer, and a 120° field of view. Fujifilm also cited continuous, unobstructed needle visualization to support puncture alignment.
FDA records list the device as the FUJIFILM Ultrasonic Endoscope EB-710US under 510(k) K250863. The agency classified it as a flexible or rigid bronchoscope and listed a substantial equivalence decision date of December 12, 2025.
Fujifilm said published reports have documented use of the scope to access challenging mediastinal and peripheral targets without a balloon.
