Olympus, Canon launch Aplio i800 EUS in U.S.
Olympus and Canon Medical Systems USA launched the Aplio i800 EUS premium ultrasound system for gastroenterology and pulmonary endoscopic use in the U.S.

Olympus and Canon Medical Systems USA have launched the Aplio i800 EUS premium ultrasound system in the U.S. for gastroenterology and pulmonary endoscopic use.
The system is manufactured by Canon and distributed exclusively by Olympus for EUS customers in the U.S. and its territories, including Puerto Rico and Bermuda, according to Olympus.
The Aplio i800 EUS system is designed to provide high-resolution visualization, deep penetration, and quantitative assessment tools during endoscopic ultrasound procedures. Olympus said the system expands its EUS portfolio for gastrointestinal procedures and supports clinical assessment across a range of GI applications.
The launch focuses on diseases where endoscopic ultrasound can help clinicians evaluate tissue and guide next steps, including gastrointestinal, liver, and pancreatic conditions. Olympus said advanced EUS technologies are playing a growing role in clinical practice as rates of liver and pancreatic disease rise in the U.S.
Clinically validated tools available on the Aplio i800 EUS include shear wave elastography, attenuation imaging, microvascular imaging, and Smart 3D. These tools are intended to help clinicians perform tissue assessment, vascular evaluation, and anatomical review within a single EUS-guided workflow.
The system is also positioned for hepatopancreatobiliary assessment, where early-stage abnormalities can be difficult to detect and characterize. Olympus said it will feature the system as part of its expanded EUS portfolio at Digestive Disease Week 2026 in Chicago from May 3 to 5.
Miquel Àngel García, executive vice president and general manager for gastrointestinal solutions at Olympus, said the system supports clinicians in “achieving more efficient workflows and more confident diagnoses.”
John Serovich, vice president of the ultrasound/X-ray business unit at Canon Medical Systems USA, said the partnership with Olympus advances the future of EUS by combining Olympus’ endoscopy reach with Canon’s imaging technology.
For imaging teams, the launch is notable because it places ultrasound-based quantitative tools inside the endoscopic workflow. Instead of relying only on visual assessment, tools such as elastography and attenuation imaging can provide additional tissue characterization that may help clinicians evaluate liver disease, pancreatic lesions, and other complex conditions.
The announcement is also a commercial milestone in the Olympus-Canon partnership. Canon manufactures the system, while Olympus distributes it to EUS customers in the U.S. market. The companies are targeting gastroenterology and pulmonary endoscopic use rather than general radiology ultrasound deployment.
The Aplio i800 EUS debuted at Digestive Disease Week 2026, giving clinicians a first U.S. conference look at the platform. Broader clinical uptake will depend on hospital purchasing decisions, endoscopy workflow integration, and how clinicians use the quantitative tools in routine EUS-guided assessment.
