Flywheel has integrated its medical imaging data management platform with AWS HealthImaging to support imaging data use in clinical trials and AI development. The company announced the integration on May 19.

The offering combines AWS HealthImaging’s cloud-based DICOM storage with imaging data orchestration tools. It is designed for biopharma, medical device companies, and academic medical centers working with imaging and video data.

The platform will serve as a governed activation layer for enterprise imaging data. Incoming data can be standardized, validated, and prepared before entering a central imaging data lake, according to the announcement.

Supported use cases include imaging-based endpoint analysis, AI-ready cohort development, secondary analyses, and clinical development workflows. The offering is intended to support both exploratory research and regulated clinical workflows.

AWS describes HealthImaging as a HIPAA-eligible service for managing medical imaging data in the cloud. The service supports petabyte-scale imaging data, AI and machine-learning inference over imaging archives, and integration with other health data modalities.

Organizations can use the combined offering without rebuilding ingestion, curation, or compliance pipelines, according to the announcement. The companies planned to present the integration at Bio-IT World Conference & Expo in Boston from May 19 to 21.
