ARRS honors Kruskal and Katz with 2026 Gold Medals
Jonathan B. Kruskal, MB, ChB, PhD, and Douglas S. Katz, MD, received the society’s highest honor during the opening ceremony of the 2026 ARRS Annual Meeting in Pittsburgh.
The American Roentgen Ray Society awarded its 2026 Gold Medal to Jonathan B. Kruskal, MB, ChB, PhD, and Douglas S. Katz, MD. The Gold Medal is the society’s highest honor for distinguished service to radiology.
Both recipients received their medals during the opening ceremony of the 2026 ARRS Annual Meeting at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh.
Kruskal is the Melvin E. Clouse professor of radiology at Harvard Medical School and chair of the department of radiology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. He served as ARRS president from 2021 to 2022.
His work has focused on peer learning, quality improvement, abdominal imaging, and physician well-being. ARRS said Kruskal has published more than 250 manuscripts and has held multiple leadership roles in radiology education and professional service.
Katz is vice chair for clinical research and education in the department of radiology at NYU Langone Hospital Long Island and professor of radiology at NYU Long Island School of Medicine.
His academic record includes more than 1,000 publications and abstracts, according to ARRS. Katz received the Radiological Society of North America’s Lifetime Honored Educator Award in 2023.
ARRS presented the medals as part of the opening session of its 2026 annual meeting, which also included society business, officer installation, and the presidential address.
